The Indian company Mahindra and Mahindra is particularly known for its utility vehicles, not only in the country, but in global car markets as well. Here is one more product to its utility vehicles line-up – the TUV300. Autoportal brings out more details on the new compact SUV.The launch and initial salesMahindra launched the TUV300 on 10th September 2015 at Rs 6.9 lakhs. The car was designed at Mahindra’s Research Valley in Chennai with inputs from Pininfarina – a leading design firm.The much anticipated SUV has received a warm welcome in the Indian car market. Within one month of launch, it sold out 4313 units and it even became the country’s second best-selling SUV just after Hyundai Creta. It looks more like a battle-tank with its raised shoulders, high front nose, flat roof, straight bonnet and high ground clearance. TUV300 is built on a new ladder frame chassis and so is compact and lighter than many other vehicles around. The high ground clearance along with prominent creases, black bumpers, roof rails and rear mounted spare wheel gives it a sporty look and an awesome road presence. InteriorsThe interior cabin gets a 2+3+2 seating arrangement and a dual toned black and beige colour. The compact SUV offers best-in-class headroom and legroom. The two single jumper seats at the rear are more suited for children though. It also offers the best-in-class boot space of 384 litres that can be expanded up to 720litres by folding away the rear seats. The instrument console is hexagon in shape and gets chrome highlights and a multi information display. The three spoke steering wheel gets contoured palm grips, audio controls and Bluetooth telephony.Additional featuresMahindra offers an impressive infotainment system and a music system with excellent speakers. There are also reverse parking sensors and passive cornering headlamps. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) are standard in all except the base T4 variant. Aninteresting feature here is the automatic engine shut off, in case the car is stationary for more than 2 seconds and no gear is engaged. Other notable features include power steering, power windows, tilt-able steering, digital immobilizer and ECO mode, keyless entry, voice messaging system and driver seat height adjuster.SpecificationsThe Mahindra TUV 300 is powered by a 1.5litre mHawk80 turbocharged diesel engine with the Micro hybrid technology. It is capable to produce a maximum power of 84 bhp along with 230 Nm of torque. Transmission options on offer are a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed automated manual transmission. Mahindra claims a fuel efficiency of 18.49 kmpl for the TUV300.
