Some 8 years ago minivans were considered to be on the endangered species list. However, these versatile and practical vehicles keep on being popular among small businesses or large families.

The very fresh solutions in the sector have been recently presented at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show, which is the largest auto show in North America, held annually. This year’s event included demonstrations of the two most popular delivery van models: the Ford Transit and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. So, let’s look through the latest updates of the world’s top large van offers and get introduced with one of the show’s highlights.

The 2017 Ford Transit

The new Transit has undergone minor feature changes. Meanwhile, it boasts an updated interior. The engine versions start from a 3.2-liter turbocharged 5-cylinder diesel, which delivers 185 hp. To meet the need for greater power there are 2 options: a 3.7-liter V6 with an output of 275 hp and a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6, capable of 310 hp. Available transmission is a 6-speed automatic gearbox with a rear-wheel drive.

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

Debuted at last year’s show, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter WORKER (more on here) represents a first-class fleet utility vehicle. The range of power units consists of a 2.1-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine, which outputs 161 hp, and a 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged diesel engine, which produces 188 hp. Though the Sprinter engine range is less versatile and powerful than that of the Transit, but there is the choice between a 7-speed and a 5-speed automatic transmission.

At the Spotlight: the Mercedes-Benz Metris (Vito) Toolbox Van

A great deal of public interest was drawn to an original concept van from Daimler – the Mercedes-Benz Metris MasterSolutions Toolbox (the Metris name stands for the Vito model in the North American region). This surprising van design was prepared by Mercedes-Benz North America’s MasterSolutions program, which offers different customization means for a variety of vocations.

The Metris van comes in the form of a toolbox with all the corresponding outer and inner features. The resemblance effect is achieved through a remarkable handle on the roof, thought-out toolbox latches on the sides and a special wheel design. From the inside, there are numerous shelves, drawers and removable cases with plenty space and storage options for all the necessary tools.
